Dr. Fran\u00e7ois Morin<\/h2>\n

Dr. Fran\u00e7ois Morin specialized in orthopedic surgery at Laval University from 1982 to 1986. He then specialized in hip and knee reconstruction surgery in Toronto in 1987. Since that time, he has been practicing at CHUL (Quebec City) and continued to develop his interest and passion for hip and knee pathologies. He has been in practice at the CIUSS-Universit\u00e9 Laval since its founding.<\/p>\n

Dr. Morin performs arthroscopy for meniscal tear and reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament by patellar tendon. He also practices hip resurfacing, for athletes who can return to their sport, often without restrictions, as well as the placement of hip prosthesis by direct anterior approach which allows recovery and a rapid return to activity. He also performs the fitting of knee prostheses which preserve the normal movement of the knee and allow in the majority of cases a return to sports activity.<\/p>\n

Dr Richard Lirette MD, FRCS(c), international AAOS member. Graduated from the orthopedics program at Laval University in 1985, Dr. Lirette participated in several advanced training courses, including in Europe and in the United States at the famous Mayo Clinic. Always on the lookout for innovative solutions, he is constantly perfecting his approach to treating shoulder pathologies using minimally invasive techniques, including arthroscopy. Shoulder rotator cuff tear<\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]A rotator cuff tear is an injury that affects the tendons of the muscles located in the shoulder and used to initiate movement. It can occur either through wear and tear of the tendons due to repetitive daily actions, or following trauma.<\/p>\n

Symptoms<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pain accompanied by an inability to raise the arm straight away are often the first symptoms. The shoulder can be painful with cracking during mobilization but it maintains a certain mobility without force. In some cases, the shoulder may have lost a lot of its mobility (pseudo-paralytic) and remain painful. It is important to consult quickly if a rotator cuff tear is suspected.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Causes<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rotator cuff tear can be of traumatic origin, mainly in young people, following an accident (for example, a fall from a bicycle, skiing or lifting effort. In older people, it can result from wear of the tendons of the cuff due to repetitive daily movements (for example in drywall masons, farmers, cashiers or caregivers.)\u00a0 Around 55-60 years of age, these people whose tendons are worn can see their tendons rupture following a trivial action, such as pulling or carrying something heavy.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″ offset=”vc_col-md-6″][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_video link=”https:\/\/youtu.be\/398Z8K06tQQ”][vc_empty_space height=”60px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Treatments<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For a partial rotator cuff tear or in an elderly patient, medical treatment may be preferred. It may include analgesics, rest, physiotherapy rehabilitation and infiltrations. When the lesions are disabling and operable, surgical treatment is considered. Post-operative rehabilitation is essential to restore shoulder mobility and strength. It is crucial to consult a healthcare professional to assess the severity of the rotator cuff tear and determine the appropriate treatment. Dr. Virginie Gauvreau completed a bachelor’s degree in medical biochemistry in 2002 and then a master’s degree in biomaterials engineering (experimental medicine) in 2005, while beginning her studies for a doctorate in medicine. She then graduated from her 5-year specialty studies in orthopedic surgery at Laval University in 2012. Then, she completed a subspecialty in hip and knee reconstruction (adult) at the University of Western Ontario in 2013.<\/p>\n

Her contribution to research has earned her numerous awards and recognitions. She is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the College of Physicians of Quebec, the Canadian Association of Arthroplasty Surgeons and the Association of Orthopedic Surgeons of Quebec.<\/p>\n

She practiced for 8 years in Gasp\u00e9sie before reorienting her career at Cliniques Lacroix in order to harmonize her professional practice with the realities of her young family. In addition to practicing at the University Hospital Center of Quebec since 2011, Dr. Angers is also a clinical professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University. She was the director of the orthopedic surgery program at Laval University from 2018 to 2022.<\/p>\n

Her contributions to research and collaboration on various scientific publications have allowed her to participate in multiple international conferences. She is the head of orthopedics at St-Fran\u00e7ois-d’Assise Hospital and sits on various committees. He practices at Lacroix Private Surgery and at the University Hospital Center of Quebec at the Saint-Fran\u00e7ois d’Assise Hospital. Dr. Leclerc also serves as the head of medical quality in orthopedics at the University Hospital Center of Quebec. In addition to being part of the Lacroix team of orthopedic surgeons, he practices at the CIUSSS in Estrie at the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital and is a clinical teaching professor affiliated with the University of Sherbrooke. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2015 from the University of Ottawa and completed graduate studies in orthopedic surgery in 2020 at Western University. During his orthopedic residency, he completed his Master of Science in Surgery and published several scientific articles that were presented at international conferences.<\/p>\n

Dr. Dion also completed subspecialty training in hip and knee reconstruction during his fellowship at the University of Ottawa. He also completed a subspecialty training in orthopedic traumatology at McGill University. The completion of this training gives Dr. Dion great versatility when dealing with complex cases. Dr. Dion performs total hip replacement, total or partial knee replacement, post-traumatic surgeries (non-union, malunion, arthrodesis, correction of deformities), sports knee surgeries by arthroscopy (anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, meniscal repairs, menisectomies), as well as other minor surgeries for carpal tunnels, Dupuytren’s disease, cysts and trigger fingers.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jessica Vachon graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Universit\u00e9 Laval in 2008 and completed her residency in orthopedic surgery in 2013. She then pursued a subspecialty in lower limb arthroplasty and trauma at the University of Toronto from 2013 to 2014, where she performed over 800 surgeries. Since then, she has been practicing at H\u00f4tel-Dieu de L\u00e9vis, focusing primarily on the management of primary and complex hip and knee arthroplasties.<\/p>\n
